About Open BJJ

Jiu-jitsu knowledge should not sit behind a paywall. Open BJJ is a free, independent guide to techniques, rules, belts, gyms, and events.

Why this exists

Most people learn BJJ in pieces: a class here, a clip there, a rules question nobody at the gym can answer with certainty. Open BJJ puts the fundamentals in one place, in plain language, and organizes them so you always know what to work on next. Everything is free to read, with no account required.

What you will find

How pages are written and checked

  • Pages are compiled from the published IBJJF, ADCC and other rule sets, organizer pages and the other sources they cite. They are drafted with AI help, then fact-checked against those sources.
  • The wording is written for this site. Outside sources are used for facts, never copied as instruction.
  • Rules change, so check the current rulebook before you compete.
  • Fighter titles, gym details, and event dates link to the sources they come from.
  • Rankings of gyms and creators are editorial. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked.

The full list of sources, how drafting and checking work, and what the dates on each page mean are on the methodology page.

Who is behind it

Open BJJ is built and run by Kornel Dubieniecki, a software engineer. He trains BJJ occasionally, camps included, and is still an amateur. None of the technique or rules knowledge here is his own: it comes from the sources each page cites.

There is no reviewer behind the pages. Are you a coach or a black belt who wants to help check technique pages? Get in touch.
