All Transitions Techniques

Sweeps, passes, escapes, and takedowns that connect major positions.

Transitions connect the positional map. They include sweeps, passes, escapes, takedowns, and movement chains that move you from one state to another.

Most beginners think of techniques as single moments. In live grappling, the useful skill is linking those moments together: enter, adjust, follow resistance, and settle into the next position.

Use this category to build movement literacy:

  • Passes move through guard into top control.
  • Sweeps reverse bottom position into top position.
  • Escapes recover safety from bad positions.
  • Takedowns connect standing exchanges to ground control.

Train transitions with a clear destination. A movement is only complete when you have stabilized the next position.
