Gracie Barra North Phoenix is at 3030 West Deer Valley Road, in the Deer Valley area of north Phoenix. It opened in August 2017.

The school is connected to Professor Flavio Almeida, a fourth-degree black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. He co-founded nine Gracie Barra schools in Southern California and Phoenix. Day-to-day classes are led by head instructor Professor Johnathan Rodrigues, known as "Jow Jow". Program director Daniel Amorim Junior is from São Gonçalo, in Rio de Janeiro state, and grew up in the sport through his father. The staff also includes Professor Bruno "Formiga", who holds a doctorate in sport science, Professor Renzo Gomez-Barrios, brown belt coach Russell Wong and blue belt coach Jess Soto.

Classes follow the Gracie Barra program structure, which Gracie Barra designs around different ages, genders and skill levels. The school says it serves individuals, families and law-enforcement officers. Its page does not list a separate no-gi program.

The timetable is early-starting. The school opens at 6 am Monday to Thursday and runs into the evening. Friday sessions finish at lunchtime, Saturday is a morning session, and the school is closed on Sundays.

Visiting and first class

• Trial and drop-ins: we could not find a published policy, so contact the school before your first visit. Gracie Barra says members can train at any official school.
• Other Gracie Barra schools nearby: Anthem (W Anthem Way), Avondale, Ahwatukee and Chandler (Ocotillo) all have their own Gracie Barra pages.

Details above were checked on Gracie Barra's school pages in October 2026. Confirm the current schedule with the school before you go.
