Gracie Barra Sorrento Valley is at 5995 Mira Mesa Boulevard, Suite B, in the Sorrento Valley and Mira Mesa area of north San Diego (92121).

The owner is Professor Amit Shaunak. He began training in 2001 under Professor Marcelo Pereira at one of the first Gracie Barra schools in San Diego. In 2005, he was one of six students picked to travel and train in Rio de Janeiro. He received his black belt from Pereira in 2023 and is a certified Gracie Barra instructor. He speaks Spanish and Hindi as well as English, along with some Portuguese. The school says other black belt instructors teach alongside him.

Classes follow the standard Gracie Barra program ladder:

  • GBK: kids classes, with a kids area off the mat.
  • GBF: women's jiu-jitsu.
  • GB1: fundamentals, for beginners.
  • GB2: advanced classes.
  • GB3: the expert program for senior belts.
  • Private classes: booked with the school.

Gracie Barra's page does not list a separate no-gi program.

The timetable is built around a working week. There are lunchtime sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and evening classes Monday to Thursday. Saturday runs from mid-morning to early afternoon, and the school is closed on Sundays.
