Gracie Barra Seattle is at 270 South Hanford Street, Suite 201, in Seattle's SoDo industrial district, south of downtown (98134). It has been at that address for more than a decade. Graciemag profiled the school at the same suite in 2013.
At the time of that profile, the head instructor was Professor Rodrigo Lopes, a second-degree black belt who trained under Carlos Gracie Jr. and Marcio Feitosa. Gracie Barra's current instructor page for Seattle does not name its coaches. It says only that every instructor is Gracie Barra certified. Ask the school who is teaching now before you sign up.
The school publishes the full Gracie Barra program ladder, with entry rules for each level:
- GBK: the kids program, covering self-defense, takedowns and groundwork.
- GBF: an introduction for women that leads into the main adult tracks.
- GB1: fundamentals, the starting point for new adults.
- GB2: advanced classes with more complex drills, live rounds and no-gi training. Students need at least three stripes on their white belt, which takes a minimum of four months.
- GB3: the expert program, open to blue belts and above.
- Private classes: booked with the school.
No-gi is not a separate program. It is taught inside GB2.
The timetable covers most working patterns. There are early-morning classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays and lunchtime classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Evening classes run every weekday, and Saturday has a late-morning session. The school is closed on Sundays.
Visiting and first class
- Free class: the school's site has a "Book Your Free Class" form.
- Drop-ins: we could not find a published drop-in price. Gracie Barra says members can train at any official school.
- Other Gracie Barra schools nearby: Northeast Seattle has its own Gracie Barra page, and there are more Gracie Barra schools in Redmond and Mill Creek.
Details above were checked on Gracie Barra's school pages and Graciemag in October 2026. Confirm the current schedule with the school before you go.
