Gracie Barra Singapore is a jiu-jitsu-only school in Bugis, about a five-minute walk from Bugis MRT. LessonPlan's school listing says it was established in 2017, and it is open seven days a week.
The head instructor is Bruno Amorim, a black belt and a student of Vinicius "Draculino" Magalhães. He has trained for more than 25 years and taught for 19. The academy says he was promoted to black belt on the podium after winning at the 2009 IBJJF Worlds, so that title came below black belt. He is also a judo black belt, and he coached the Indonesian national team at the 2018 Asian Games. The school's resident black belt, Kon Hui Quek, started in 2004 and won gold at the Abu Dhabi World Pro as a brown belt in 2015. Audrey Kua, a black belt under Amorim, directs the women's program.
The class list:
- Adults: beginner and intermediate jiu-jitsu classes.
- No-gi: dedicated no-gi classes.
- Women: a women's program and women's self-defence classes.
- Kids and toddlers: classes start from age 2.5, with separate toddler groups.
- Yoga for BJJ: yoga sessions designed around jiu-jitsu training.
The school's instructors compete, but it does not list a separate competition program.
There are two matted areas, a strength corner with a squat rack, kettlebells and a rower, and changing rooms with showers and free towel rental. There is also a lounge with free coffee and tea and a Gracie Barra pro shop, and the building has lift access.
