Roger Gracie Academy's headquarters is at 22-24 Glenthorne Road in Hammersmith, West London (W6 0NG). It leads a network of associated schools across the UK and abroad.

The academy is led by Roger Gracie and his father, Mauricio Gomes. Roger is a grandson of Carlos Gracie and the son of Mauricio Gomes and Reila Gracie. He moved to London around 2000, as a blue belt, to live with his father. He received his black belt from his uncle, Carlos Gracie Jr.; BJJ Heroes dates the promotion to 2004, while Wikipedia says 2003 and lists him at black belt at that year's Worlds. He trained along the way with his father, his uncle Rilion Gracie, his cousin Renzo Gracie and at Gracie Barra's headquarters in Rio. His record includes:

• IBJJF World Championship: ten black belt titles, plus world titles at blue, purple and brown belt.
• ADCC 2005: won both his weight division and the absolute, submitting all eight opponents.
• Other titles: the 2005 IBJJF European Open and the 2006 Pan Championship.

The academy says it has a team of instructors from Brazil and elsewhere. They are listed on its instructors page.

Programs at Hammersmith include:

• Gi jiu-jitsu: traditional training in the kimono, at all levels.
• No-gi jiu-jitsu: daily classes for beginners and all levels, plus open mats and competition training.
• Kids and teens: Brazilian jiu-jitsu for children and teenagers.
• Kickboxing: classes drawing on boxing, karate and Muay Thai.

The academy is open seven days a week. Weekday hours run from early morning to late evening, Saturday from morning to mid-afternoon, and Sunday is a morning session. The class-by-class timetable is published on the academy's site.

Visiting and first class

• Free intro class: new adult students can book a free induction class, and there is a separate free kids' induction.
• Visitors: visiting students can train jiu-jitsu, no-gi and kickboxing at Hammersmith on a visitor's pass. The price and length are not listed on the home page, so ask when you book.
