Crucifix Choke
Choke attacks from crucifix control that use the trapped arm and collar or naked grips to finish while the far arm is pinned.

Overview
Crucifix chokes finish from crucifix control by pinning one arm with your legs while attacking the neck with collar or naked grips on the free side.
#Setup
- Secure crucifix control so one arm is trapped between your legs.
- Keep chest pressure and hip connection so they cannot extract the trapped arm.
- Establish a collar grip, seatbelt, or naked choking hand on the free-arm side.
#Execution
- Tighten the choke while the trapped arm stays immobilized.
- Walk your hips and shoulders to remove slack under the neck.
- Use the pinned arm as a frame that prevents them from defending both sides.
#Finishing
- If the choke stalls, switch to clock choke or bow-and-arrow style collar attacks in gi.
- In no-gi, transition toward rear naked choke mechanics when the neck becomes available.
⚠️
Safety Note
Crucifix control can stress shoulders while the choke finishes the neck. Keep finishes progressive and release immediately on tap.
Primary Targets
- Neck
Key Concepts
- Pin the arm first — the choke is easier when one hand cannot defend.
- Chest and hip connection keep the crucifix from dissolving.
- Have a second choke ready if the first grip slips.
Primary Entries
- Turtle turns when you capture a near-side arm with your legs.
- Back-take scrambles that leave one arm trapped low.
- Failed clock choke when crucifix control is already available.
Defenses & Counters
- Expect hand fighting and posture resets before the lock settles
- Watch for bridges or frames that create space under your chest
- If the angle dies, transition instead of forcing a stalled finish
Follow-Ups
- Transition to a linked submission when they defend the primary finish
- Re-secure the control position if the submission breaks
- Advance position when the defense opens a better pin
Training Drills
- Positional entries with progressive resistance
- Finish-or-transition rounds from the main control
- Partner tap drills emphasizing early recognition
