Jungle BJJ is widely described as the first Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy in the Czech Republic. Its founder, Fernando Araujo, is often called the father of Czech BJJ. He is a high-degree black belt whose lineage runs through Rodrigo Medeiros and Francisco "Toco" Albuquerque of Nova Geração. Jungle BJJ also has affiliate clubs in Brno, Bratislava and Lauf, Germany.
The academy moved in September 2026. It left the Fortuna sports hall (formerly Tipsport Arena) in Holešovice, which is being rebuilt, and now trains in basement premises near Lyčkovo náměstí in Karlín, Prague 8. Older listings and maps that point to Holešovice are out of date.
The club has more than 250 members and a strong kids program. Araujo teaches the gi classes for beginners and advanced students, Eldar Rafigaev leads the midweek gi all-levels classes, Daniel Holý runs no-gi, and Agnieszka Syguła teaches the kids.
Visiting from abroad
- No casual drop-ins. Jungle BJJ runs as a members' sports club. As reported in September 2026, you can't just walk in to train. Contact the club before you travel and ask whether a visit can be arranged.
- Address: the new Karlín premises had no published street address in October 2026, so get directions from the club.
- Name confusion: "Jungle Holešovice" (jungle.cz) is an unrelated kids' gym.
Details above were checked in October 2026 against Czech press coverage of the move and earlier visitor reports.
