Daniel "Ragnar" Holý is a Czech jiu-jitsu black belt from Prague, known online as @ragnar_bjj for leg locks and no-gi grappling. He trains at Jungle BJJ Praha and runs Ragnar Academy, an online instruction project.

Background and lineage

According to his Ragnar Academy site, Holý started jiu-jitsu in 2011 at Tiger Gym in Prague-Řepy. He later joined Jungle BJJ. In November 2023 Fernando Araújo, the academy's founder and a fifth-degree black belt (listed on Jungle BJJ's trainer page as Fernando "Coleman" Araujo), promoted him to black belt. His site says he is one of Jungle BJJ Praha's five black belts. Jungle BJJ's trainer page also lists him as an Araújo black belt.

Competition

  • ADCC European Trials (2021): competed for the Czech Republic.
  • Brown belt (2022–2023): three IBJJF silvers: no-gi in Rome in 2022 and 2023, and gi at the Master International Europe in 2023. He also took bronze in the open weight at the 2023 European No-Gi.
  • Black belt (2024): silver at the IBJJF European No-Gi (Master 2, super-heavyweight). He lost the final to an ankle lock.

He describes himself as a guard player who specialises in leg locks.

Coaching

His site says he prepared Karlos Vémola for a rematch and coaches MMA fighter Nik Stedis.

Ragnar Academy

Ragnar Academy is his online platform for no-gi and leg-lock instruction. Its full-length instructionals cover the entry, control, finish and common mistakes for each technique. They are sold as a single-tier Patreon membership at $9.90 a month, with eight videos at launch. The site says membership opens in autumn 2026, the videos are in Czech with subtitles planned, and the material is aimed at grapplers from about blue belt up. It also runs a free monthly newsletter and posts clips on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
