Adult IBJJF match times usually range from about 5 minutes at white belt to 10 minutes at black belt, while ADCC and other no-gi rulesets use different time limits and overtime formats.
Match length changes pacing. A five-minute white-belt match rewards immediate action more than a long black-belt strategic battle.
- Read the event rulebook before competing
- Practice score-aware sparring rounds at match length
- Have an overtime or advantage plan if your ruleset uses them
