Lachlan Giles bridges high-level no-gi competition and unusually clear instructional teaching. A black belt under John Simon at Absolute MMA in Melbourne, he earned IBJJF World No-Gi bronze in 2017 and ADCC absolute bronze in 2019 after heel-hooking much larger opponents including Kaynan Duarte and Mahamed Aly.
He also promoted Craig Jones to black belt and remains a primary reference for ashi, saddle, and heel-hook mechanics. Those systems map directly onto Open BJJ’s leg-entanglement technique pages.
