John Danaher is best known as a coach and systems theorist rather than a competitor. A Renzo Gracie black belt who never fought professionally because of chronic knee and hip injuries, he built the Renzo Gracie Academy group fans called the Danaher Death Squad—Gordon Ryan, Garry Tonon, Craig Jones, Nick Rodriguez, and others—then co-founded New Wave Jiu-Jitsu in Austin after the 2021 team split.

His instructional systems for heel hooks, body-lock passing, and back control reshaped how modern no-gi athletes attack lower-body submissions. On Open BJJ his profile links cleanly to heel-hook, saddle, body-lock pass, and back-control pages.
