Tarik Hopstock is a Norwegian jiu-jitsu black belt from Oslo who competes for Frontline Academy. He is best known for the Tarikoplata, a shoulder lock named after him. In 2025 he won the IBJJF World No-Gi Championship. He shares technique on Instagram and also runs a Patreon.

Background

Hopstock was born on 10 May 1996 in Oslo. He started judo as a teenager, but his club only offered one class a week, so a friend brought him to Frontline Academy, where he found jiu-jitsu. He won several IBJJF European Open titles at blue, purple and brown belt. Eduardo "Teta" Rios promoted him to black belt on 5 December 2021. His lineage runs through Ricardo Libório and Carlson Gracie.

The Tarikoplata and signature finishes

Hopstock developed the Tarikoplata around 2014 with teammates at Frontline. In his words, "it started with how I struggled to pull people's arms out from the top kimura position". It is a shoulder lock that starts from the top kimura grip; see also our kimura trap page.

BJJ Heroes lists his most common finishes:
