Chokes Techniques

Learn the most effective choking techniques in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Chokes attack posture, breathing, and blood flow through control of the neck and surrounding structure. They are among the highest-percentage submissions because they can finish without requiring major strength.

A reliable choke starts before the squeeze. You need position, angle, and connection so the opponent cannot simply posture, turn, or hand fight out.

When learning chokes, focus on:

  • Head and shoulder control before applying pressure.
  • Clean grip placement or arm alignment.
  • Slow pressure that removes space instead of sudden cranking.
  • Immediate release when your partner taps.

Practice chokes with care. Technical precision and safety matter more than force.
